Producer: Saleem Bradley · Director: Joe Beatie · Undergraduate screen production · 2022
Lovers was a student film I produced during my undergraduate screen production study at Murdoch University. The project brought together creative collaboration and the practical planning needed to support a film production.
The story
Lovers follows Kurtis and Ida as social pressures and unexpected events test their relationship and their hopes for a shared future. The production combined performance imagery with scenes planned across studio, theatre and residential settings.
My role as producer
I prepared supporting production documents covering the shooting schedule, budget planning, location safety and the proposed audience rollout. These records show the organisation behind the creative work and the range of details a producer needs to bring together.
- Scheduling: a five-day plan for 19–23 September 2022, bringing scene order, cast requirements, locations, setup, breaks and wrap times into one production record.
- Budget preparation: an itemised workbook covering development and production costs, supplies, transport, catering and contingency.
- Location planning: a checklist and risk notes addressing location arrangements and proposed safety controls.
- Audience communication: a production press kit with a synopsis, cast and crew credits and a proposed rollout through student networks, dance communities and social media.
Professional portfolio editions
The original documents have been edited into consistent, readable portfolio editions. The budget now calculates from its planning inputs, the schedule uses Perth local time and the press kit gives the project and its collaborators clear credit. Historical planning information is identified as such.
The short portfolio brief gives an overview of my contribution. The press kit offers a fuller account of the production and its proposed audience plan.

What the work means to me
The work I did as producer of Lovers brought me great pride and joy. I value the responsibility of supporting a team’s creative work, preparing the practical details and helping a project move from an idea into a production.
Collaboration and credit
Joe Beatie directed the film. The original press kit credits Laurie Augimeri as Kurtis, Anya Pia as Ida, Vee McGuire as the mother, Claudia Haines-Cappeau as Ida’s body double and Mikayla Compton as the ballerina.
Key production credits include Benn Wintle, director of photography; James Su, production designer; Mamoun Bashir, sound; and Owen Beatie, editor. The professional press kit preserves the complete supplied cast and crew record.
